FITNESS

I constantly receive emails and comments requesting my diet and workout routine, so I’m finally starting a new fitness segment on my blog! I’m not a professional trainer or anything, I just know what works for me.

I started working out religiously about three years ago because I wanted to shed a few pounds and get toned. Now I just workout to maintain my weight, but also because it makes me feel good. To me, there is nothing more gratifying than enduring and completing a grueling, sweat-drenched workout. I workout about 3-4 times a week, switching between cardio and strength training. I’ve never been a fan of running and I detest ellipticals, so I like to either take a spin class or do a thirty-minute high intensity circuit training on cardio days. For strength and resistance training I only use my body weight (although sometimes I do incorporate dumbbells) and alternate between muscle groups and intensity.

Exercise plays an important role in getting in shape, but healthy eating is even more crucial. You have to commit to a clean diet, keep track of your macros (carbs, fats and protein) and cut out all processed foods. I use MyFitnessPal app to count my calorie intake because workouts are pointless if you’re consuming more calories than you’re burning. There is honestly no secret to getting fit other than discipline and diligence. It doesn’t matter if you want to lose two pounds or seventy, the principle remains the same. And trust me- it becomes easier the longer you stick to it. workout++
I’ll be sharing more of my favorite workouts, so stay tuned.
xx

I know these tips are nothing new

Dedication and discipline literally sum up a fitness journey. I dedicated the whole of 2014 to my fitness journey and it has been amazing! I reached my goal weight, and I’ve been balancing working out with a for the most part clean diet. I work out 4-5 times a week and I do not deprive myself of anything I want (within reason of course). It’s been a journey but now, working out has become a habit I’m proud of! A nice body does wonders to one’s self esteem!

I got motivated after my little one was born. I started out slow with just walking. Now I do yoga 5 days a week 2x a day (if I can) morning and before bed and I also walk 3 miles daily(little man in tow) . I lost over 45lbs.(baby weight gain). I am right back to where I want to be. And it feels great. Being motivated to be healthy for my child and for myself makes it worth while. And the weekends are my off days. Hey everyone needs a rest;-) now if I could only eat better, I have such a weakness for ice cream.

Well done on the weight loss. I walk everyday as well but without a little man! 😉

      • GoFashiondeals

Thanks! :)Walking is great, get a lot of thinking done. now that it is starting to get cooler maybe I can walk more. But then again it is supposed to be 90 today.Yuck!

Fitness & health is partially common sense! I’ve been tracking my calories the last few days & it’s been enlightening. Now for the exercise. Running isn’t my favorite either! :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

I totally agree with you! I believe that knowing how much you eat and what is in your food is essential. People tend to overeat and than they are surprised that sports don’t work. Great article, Karla!

I couldn’t agree more! I committed to fitness 19 years ago, even taught aerobics classes for 8 of those!! I still do 3 workouts a week. I use dvds – it’s so convenient to be able to hop in my own shower afterwards! Looking forward to seeing more of your fitness segments ^_^

I don’t like running either. For me, Karate did the trick. On average I am practicing 3-4 times a week with sensei (trainer) and supplement with body weight excersises and self practice at home.

Around the same time I started with Karate, I also changed my eating habits, cut out processed food and 90% of my bread intake.

Looking forward to read more about your routine.

I’m glad you mention a clean diet. I think a lot of people forget that what we eat impacts the effectiveness of our fitness regimes; it’s not just how often or intense our workouts are. Of course staying physically active is important too. Any way, I look forward to reading more posts about your health and wellness routine!

I completely agree with what you said. There’s no need for any fancy diet, it’s as simple as calories in < calories out.

I'm looking forward to reading your fitness posts Karla!

I agree with everything you say! working out takes a lot of dedication and eating the right food makes such a difference in your system too. I haven’t worked out in almost 6 months and I’ve been itching to work out again.

  • http://blog.shopdisowned.com/ dani

These are great basic tips!! Especially that there’s no use exercising if you consume more calories than you burn. And diligence! The reason I think most people fail at dieting is that they see it as a diet- not a regimen. Regimen is such a better name for a healthy eating/living/lifestyle.

I can guarantee you that it doesn’t matter AT ALL if you eat processed foods, all vegan, keto or whatever as long as you hit your macros. If anyone need help checkout iifym.com for a calculator and plug those values to MyFitnessPal, tracking macros becomes almost like a game 😉
